“Sentimental Parlour Music” is the debut album of composer/sound artist Desmond Knight. An avid armchair naturalist, he has spent many a day and night in far flung regions recording all manner of sound. Knight’s singular catalogue of captured and found ephemeral sound is cut up and reassembled to form the broad world of “Bridge,” a vast soundscape that reimagines the lost hills of New Jersey as haunted by Cage, Ives, and Duchamp.

Hampton Fancher “Rat Lunch” Release

Announcing the release of Rat Lunch, available digitally September 25th from the Underwolf store; in wide release October 16th.

Rat Lunch will be performed live Friday, October 12th at The Firehouse Space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, along with a set by Dollshot.

Hampton Fancher, best known as the screenwriter of Blade Runner, narrates his original text set to music by Noah Kaplan in the post-rock spoken word cantata Rat Lunch. Fancher’s cryptic prose darts from Freud to Uncle Tom, from the humorous to the macabre over a trio of electric guitar (Marco Cappelli), electric bass (Giacomo Merega), and saxophone (Noah Kaplan). Kaplan’s moody, cinematic score illuminates the careening trajectory of Fancher’s text.

When purchased from the Underwolf store, Rat Lunch will include an exclusive digital edition of Fancher’s text, designed by Pablo Delkan.

Fancher’s book of short stories, The Shape of the Final Dog, published by Penguin’s Blue Rider Press, is out September 13th.

“Watch the Walls Instead” Release

Announcing the release of Watch the Walls Instead on May 29!

The release concert will be held Thursday, May 31 at 8PM at Douglass Street Music Collective.

Giacomo Merega (electric bass) leads this trio featuring Noah Kaplan (saxophone) and Marco Cappelli (guitars) in collaborative settings with pianist Anthony Coleman and Mauro Pagani (violin) on Watch the Walls Instead. The record presents a continuation of the trio with Kaplan and David Tronzo from Merega’s critically acclaimed debut album, The Light and Other Things, described as “[conveying] a radiant emotionality,” (All About Jazz). This kaleidoscopic album brims with fractured rhythms and spidery lines sustained by gritty electro-acoustic textures. Poet provacateur Sparrow’s surreal, punk sci-fi short, On the Wings of the Dove, is the literary companion to the record. Available for pre-order from iTunes on May 15th.
